Bernhard Seikovits worked out with superstar Zach Ertz in the offseason and hopes to earn a roster spot with the Arizona Cardinals in the 2022 season
Munich – Austrian Bernhard Seikovits spent last season on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad and would like to be a permanent part of the active roster in the 2022 season, but knows the challenge.
“The competition at tight end is obviously huge with us. Zach Ertz is a three-time Pro Bowler and Trey McBride, another talented TE, was drafted in the second round,” he explained in an interview with Crunchtime magazine.
“So it’s extremely unlikely that I’ll make it to starting tight end – but I’ll be fighting for every minute of action in the preseason to show myself. Then, if things go well in August, I have a chance to make the team.”
In doing so, he wants to bring his qualities to the fore: “In terms of my size and athleticism, I certainly have an advantage. I’m also an option as a face-off station because I catch the balls quite well,” says the 1.96-metre athlete.
“It’s also a plus for me that I can learn and adapt quickly and well. I’m a balanced, variable player who doesn’t just catch balls or just block, but can bring both into the game. For sure, I still have a lot to learn in both, but I’m on a good path. “
Bernhard Seikovits gets tips from Zach Ertz
In doing so, he tries to benefit from working with Ertz. “We get along really well. He’s definitely a cool guy to learn a lot from. He has already achieved so much, is a Pro Bowler and an All Star – and yet he has remained grounded and always tries to help me, comes up to me and gives me tips,” says Seikovits.
“Especially now in the offseason we had a lot of time to train together. I was able to learn a lot from him and he is always open when I have questions.
