A decision that currently gives hope to NFL fans in several locations will have a major impact on the team landscape in the coming season: For the first time in his career, quarterback Tom Brady is a free agent and can choose from a wide range of interested parties where he will be playing next season.

He is the one domino that will have an impact on many Free Agent quarterbacks – as many as have not felt in years in the NFL’s most important position: Besides Brady, there are currently Philip Rivers, Jameis Winston, Teddy Bridgewater, Cam Newton, Marcus Mariota and Ryan Tannehill, for example, without a contract – not to mention the draft class quarterbacks.

With the comments of Patriot’s owner Robert Krafft about the Super Bowl (“we’ll pay 30 million as well”), it was initially assumed that he would stay in New England, even if some things hadn’t worked out the way he had imagined and the family had sold their property in the area in the meantime. Moreover, he had fought for his last contract (which was usually concluded below market value) to have a chance at the Free Agency. Nevertheless, a stay in Foxborough still has the lowest rate (1.61) among the bookmakers (William Hill).

Should he decide to bid farewell to “his” franchise, there are a number of teams that are considered interested:

In the Tennessee Titans, the contract of Ryan Tannehill, who played outstandingly last season for his circumstances and the expectations placed in him, has expired. Head coach Mike Vrabel, however, has been a close friend of Tom Brady since his time with the Patriots, and Brady’s combination with 2019 League Rushing Champion Derrick Henry (who will theoretically become a free agent if the day is not drawn or he does not get a long-term contract) sounds anything but tempting for opposing defences.

The Los Angeles Chargers and Philip Rivers have already parted ways; the team is without a marketable star, and this in its first year (as a tenant) at the Rams’ new SoFi stadium. With Tom Brady, the so far maximum sluggish season ticket and suite sales could explode in no time at all, as it would probably be possible with hardly any other (available) player. In addition, some close family members of Brady still live in California.

The situation is similar for the Las Vegas Raiders in terms of the pulling power for the new stadium. Furthermore, Head Coach Jon Gruden is not considered to be the biggest fan of his former quarterback Derek Carr (even though he had bought and converted his own property in the southern Las Vegas Valley next to Gruden’s house in Las Vegas). The Raiders are currently welcomed with open arms in Las Vegas and an engagement of Brady would add to the euphoria.

Only outsider chances are given to the Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins.

Brady’s agent Don Yee was at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis and at least checked the interested parties; no negotiations have been made with the Patriots so far. Maybe they’ll wait and see what the competition has to offer and Robert Krafft will make sure that Brady stays in the end with an unbeatable offer (like it happened with Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels two years ago). However, this does not seem certain at the moment.

Instead, after twenty (underpaid) years in Patriots Jersey, Brady could actually end the autumn of his career elsewhere… Once again, Tom Brady dominates the headlines and the NFL landscape.
