NFL – Brian Flores endorses Houston Texans head coach pick – and smells conspiracy

The Houston Texans have settled on Lovie Smith as their future head coach. The other candidate, Brian Flores, is coming up empty. Now he’s spoken out about the selection – and smells a little conspiracy against him.

Munich – The Brian Flores case is going into the next round.

The former Miami Dolphins head coach, who was also one of the finalists for the Houston Texans job, has spoken out through his lawyers after Lovie Smith got the job instead of him.

“Mr. Flores is happy, however… “

In a joint statement from his two lawyers, it is stressed that “Mr. Flores is very happy to hear that a black head coach, Lovie Smith, has been given the job. His goal is and always has been to ensure that minorities can have real opportunities for coaching jobs and as executives,” it says.

“However,” the text continues, “we would like to point out that Mr. Flores was also one of the three finalists for the job and came up empty despite a mutual interest.”

The charge reads, “Therefore, it is apparent that Mr. Flores was not selected solely because of his decision to stand up against the NFL and racial inequality,” according to his lawyers’ view.

List of allegations grows longer – head coaching jobs are filled

About a week ago, Flores filed a 60-page indictment accusing the NFL, the New York Giants, the Denver Broncos and the Miami Dolphins of systematic racism, game tampering and flimsy interpretation of the “Rooney Rule”, among other things. The Houston Texans are next on this now long list.

Because the New Orleans Saints have now promoted defensive coordinator Dennis Allen to head coach, all the head coaching jobs in the NFL have been filled, leaving Flores empty-handed for the time being.

He can still hope for one of the coordinator positions. Those Saints, for example, are still looking at that position. However, it is not unlikely that Brian Flores will watch the 2022 season on his couch.
