After an absolute thriller, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round. Head coach Andy Reid gave his quarterback Patrick Mahomes a curious piece of advice just seconds before the end of regulation time.
Munich/Kansas City – The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills 42:36 after overtime in one of the biggest thrillers in playoff history.
When wide receiver Gabriel Davis scored a touchdown with 13 seconds left to give the Bills a three-point lead, it looked like the 2020 champions would be out of the playoffs early. Chiefs coach Andy Reid was asked after the game what he told quarterback Patrick Mahomes about the “grim” situation they found themselves in.
“If it’s grim, be the Grim Reaper and go get it,” Reid explained. Mahomes did exactly what Reid had advised him to do. Two completions to Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce covered 44 yards and set up a field goal by kicker Harrison Butker to send the game into overtime and eventually win.
“He did it. He made everyone around him better, which he’s great at, and he just does it effortlessly. When it gets tough, he’s there and he fights. The team appreciates that,” the 63-year-old raved about his playmaker.
