After several negative headlines and the recent violence allegations by former kicker Josh Lambo, Head Coach Urban Meyer of the Jacksonville Jaguars has been fired after not even one season.
Munich/Jacksonville – After less than one season, the Jacksonville Jaguars have parted ways with head coach Urban Meyer. The Florida franchise confirmed this on Thursday.
There was a big statement from owner Shad Khan on the Jaguars’ website.
“I am bitterly disappointed “
“After several deliberations over the past few weeks and after deep analysis of the situation surrounding Urban Meyer, we have decided to relieve Urban of his duties,” Khan said.
“I am bitterly disappointed that we have had to come to this conclusion. As I said in October, he has to regain our confidence. That hasn’t happened.”
Darrell Bevell will act as interim coach. The 51-year-old was previously offensive coordinator under Meyer, making him one of his assistants, whom Meyer called “losers.”
Khan and the Jaguars do not want to make any further statements about Meyer and the alleged incidents surrounding him that have been reported in recent weeks and will continue to be reported “until the end of the NFL season. “
Violence allegations by Josh Lambo
The latest accusation was one of violence from former kicker Josh Lambo. Who told The New York Times on Wednesday, “He kicked me at practice. When I told him not to kick me, he just said, ‘I’ll kick whoever I want’ and walked away.”
It was probably the last straw that broke the camel’s back and led to Meyer’s dismissal.
The Jaguars have four games left in the season and currently stand at 2-11.
