Athletically, the Carolina Panthers can only do little against the New England Patriots. However, it gets all the louder after the game when Patriots quarterback Mac Jones is accused of unsportsmanship.

Munich – Despite the clear 6:24 defeat from the Carolina Panthers’ point of view, there was a lot to talk about after the game.

Patriots quarterback Mac Jones in particular was the target of verbal attacks because he allowed himself a rather unpleasant action in the first quarter. After a fumble on his part, he held the foot of defensive end Brian Burns for an unnecessarily long time and probably turned his opponent’s ankle in the process.

Mac Jones under fire

Burns apparently actually injured himself in this action and had to leave the field with assistance at the end of the game due to another injury to the same ankle. Accordingly, the Panthers were incensed after the game: “That was already a very dirty action,” explained linebacker Haason Reddick.

“At first I thought he was going to kick him or give him the leg. But then I saw him tugging on his ankle. That was so dirty, I hope the league addresses that incident,” Reddick further expressed his anger.

The referees on the field decided against a flag after their initial impression, but admitted to “ESPN” after the game, “The league needs to address whether the crew should have intervened here,” said the official involved, Clete Blakeman.

Burns probably avoids worse injury

Panthers coach Matt Rhule was also less than pleased after the game. “There should have been a foul,” the 46-year-old said. “I don’t want to expose any of their players, but I’m always going to protect my guys, and it looked like the injury occurred after that action,” Rhule explained.

Fortunately, the injured Burns was not hit so badly that he will suffer a long-term injury. However, the incomprehension in Carolina for the action and the not given penalty remained high.

“It seems like they always protect offensive players. That kind of thing can’t happen. I’m going to speak out on that no matter what the consequences are,” the visibly angry Reddick rumbled on. “It looked intentional to me,” he accused the rookie quarterback in closing. No one from the Patriots has yet commented on the incident.

It’s still unclear whether the action will have any consequences for Jones or the Patriots. At least with the Panthers, the issue doesn’t seem to be off the table for good.
