NFL – Injury Update Ahead of the 2026 Season – After a ACL Tear: San Francisco 49ers Pin Their Hopes on Nick Bosa

With the preseason underway, preparations for the new NFL season are entering the crucial phase. What’s the latest on injuries? Here’s the latest injury update.

Injuries are a regular occurrence in the NFL. Time and again, star players suffer injuries—unfortunately, sometimes serious ones.

What’s the current status during the preseason? Which players are injured? When will they return?

September 3, 6:11 a.m.: Nick Bosa Practices for the First Time Since Tearing His ACL

Nick Bosa missed nearly the entire last season with a severe knee injury. He suffered a torn ACL in Week 3.

However, the defensive end’s ordeal now appears to be over. As the San Francisco 49ers announced, Bosa practiced with the team without restrictions for the first time on Wednesday.

However, even during the media session after the practice, he left open the question of whether—and to what extent—he would be able to play against the Los Angeles Rams on Week 1 in Australia.

September 2, 6:23 a.m.: Lions Place Super Bowl Champion on IR

The Detroit Lions are dealing with a setback at the running back position: Isiah Pacheco has been placed on the Injured Reserve list.

The reason is a back injury that appears to be more serious than initially thought. Pacheco was expected to succeed David Montgomery and form the new backfield duo with Jahmyr Gibbs.

Pacheco cannot be activated until Week 5 at the earliest.

August 26, 5:30 p.m.: Torn ACL! Season over for Giants receiver

Bitter news for the New York Giants. Wide receiver Calvin Austin has suffered a torn ACL and is out for the 2026 season.

The wideout had to be wheeled off the field during a practice session on Tuesday after injuring himself without contact from a teammate.

Austin had just signed a one-year contract in the Big Apple during the offseason.

August 26, 4:15 p.m.: Injury scare for Bucs rookie

Rueben Bain Jr., a rookie pass-rusher for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has suffered a sprained shoulder. According to “ESPN,” however, it is “nothing serious,” so a start in Week 1 is realistic.

Bain, who was selected 15th overall in the draft, was injured on Tuesday during a joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

August 26, 6:14 a.m.: Chase shock during Bengals practice

There was a brief moment of concern during the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice on Tuesday.

After attempting a catch, wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase injured his knee and was unable to get up for a few moments. Fans and teammates were visibly worried. Although Chase was able to leave the field on his own, continuing the practice session was out of the question for him.

Later, however, the all-clear was given. It was a minor hyperextension of the knee, the wide receiver himself said. There is currently no risk of him missing the season opener.

August 24, 7:30 a.m.: Broken Ankle! Bitter Loss for the Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks’ second preseason game against the Tennessee Titans resulted not only in a loss for the Super Bowl champions but also in two serious injuries.

Safety Bud Clark, who was expected to play a key role in the secondary as a second-round pick, was injured right at the start of the game during a run by Tony Pollard.

Clark initially remained on the ground and was carried off the field after receiving treatment from the medical staff.

Later, Head Coach Mike Macdonald announced the grim diagnosis: The rookie has suffered a broken ankle and will be sidelined for many months.

Offensive guard Mason Richman also had to leave the game due to injury. Macdonald later explained that the injury was “long-term,” but did not provide any further details.

With wide receiver Jake Bobo, who had already suffered a serious leg injury during practice last week, the team is now dealing with three “heartbreaking injuries” in just one week, as the head coach explained to “ESPN.”

August 23, 7:11 p.m.: 49ers Activate George Kittle

The San Francisco 49ers have announced that tight end George Kittle has been reactivated from the physically unable to play list.

This marks an important milestone on his road to a comeback from his Achilles tendon tear. Kittle can now begin training and get into shape for the start of the season.

Kittle could therefore take the field in Week 1 when the 49ers face the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne.
