The relationship between Travis Kelce and pop star Taylor Swift has had many positive effects for the Kansas City Chiefs. Former quarterback Cam Newton is therefore recommending the next celebrity couple to the franchise.

Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton floated the idea on his “4th&1” show to continue the hype surrounding Swift and Kelce with Stefon Diggs and Cardi B.

To do so, however, the Chiefs would first have to sign the wide receiver.

The relationship between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce turned the Chiefs into more than just a football team. They became part of pop culture, TV coverage, and social media discussions almost every week.

Newton seems to believe that Diggs and the musician could have a similar effect, as both are already attracting attention far beyond the world of sports.

“Andy Reid, bro, go out and get Stefon,” is Newton’s advice. “Who was the star who took over the NFL in 2024? Taylor Swift. Who conquered the NFL in 2025? Cardi B. So go get those two shooting stars.”

Financially, a Diggs trade could be worthwhile

Financially, this would also be well worth it. According to an analysis by the Apex Marketing Group, Taylor Swift’s appearances at games alongside Kelce generated an economic impact of around 330 million euros.

While Cardi B doesn’t have the same status as Swift, she is also one of the world’s biggest music stars and has more than 160 million followers on Instagram.

To put that in perspective: Cardi B is the female rapper with the most number-one singles (five) on the Billboard Hot 100, the only female rapper to achieve multiple solo number-one hits, and the only one to reach number-one singles in two decades (the 2010s and 2020s)

Diggs was released by the Patriots

Her celebrity status is so great that the Chiefs might gain more fans if Cardi B were to regularly sit in the stands there.

Furthermore, Diggs’ athletic value would certainly be noteworthy. The 32-year-old caught passes for 1,013 yards last season while playing for the New England Patriots. The Patriots released him in March 2026, however, because otherwise $26.5 million of his salary would have counted against the salary cap.

The problem: While Kelce and Swift are getting married in a few weeks—and are therefore in a stable relationship—this is not the case with Diggs and Cardi B. Although the musician had a child with the NFL star last year, she announced their separation in February 2026.

The athlete has six children with six different women, but he was recently photographed with Cardi B again; neither of them wanted to comment on the photos.
