NFL: Stefon Diggs Acquitted in Trial for Alleged Strangulation

Stefon Diggs has been acquitted. The former Patriots receiver stood trial on charges of alleged strangulation and assault. His defense team denied the allegations entirely.

The criminal trial against Stefon Diggs in Dedham, Massachusetts, ended with an acquittal. A jury acquitted the NFL receiver of the charges of aggravated strangulation and assault. The football star has been cleared of all charges.

The former New England Patriots wide receiver had already pleaded not guilty in February.

The allegations stemmed from an alleged incident on December 2, 2025. The plaintiff was Jamila Adams, also known as Mila Adams. She worked as a private chef for Diggs and lived in his home at times.

The jury took less than two hours to reach its verdict. Diggs remained outwardly impassive in the courtroom as the verdict was announced.

Trial Against Stefon Diggs Begins

On the first day of the trial, Adams testified that Diggs had entered her bedroom and struck her with an open hand. He then wrapped his arm around her neck and choked her. She had difficulty breathing.

“When I went up to push him away, he put his arms around my neck and started choking me,” Adams said in court, according to the Associated Press.

According to the prosecution, the argument escalated following a series of angry text messages. Among other things, the background to the incident was that Adams had reportedly not been included in plans for a trip to Miami.

According to earlier reports, the dispute also involved outstanding payments that Adams allegedly demanded from Diggs.

Diggs’ defense: “The attack never happened”

Diggs’ attorney Andrew Kettlewell clearly rejected the allegations before the jury. The defense stated that there were no medical records, photos, or videos to substantiate the alleged attack. Furthermore, no one in the house had seen or heard anything unusual.

She also did not take any photos of redness on her neck or chest. “I was in shock,” Adams said. As an explanation, she said she had been busy planning her next steps at that moment. “The attack that the prosecution described in its opening statement never happened,” said Kettlewell.

The defense also attempted to question Adams’ credibility. Kettlewell hinted at a possible financial motive. The jury would see evidence that Adams had demanded money from Diggs after filing the allegations. According to Kettlewell, this demand started at $19,000 and later increased significantly.

The defense also showed the jury videos purportedly showing Adams in New York shortly after the alleged incident. In one video, she is seen smiling; in another, dancing. Adams nevertheless stood by her account. “She was angry, and she wanted Mr. Diggs to pay—in every sense of the word,” said Kettlewell.

Stefon Diggs: Athletic Future Still Uncertain

Diggs did not speak to reporters on the first day of the trial. His attorneys had previously vehemently denied the allegations. A seven-member jury was selected on Monday. According to “The Daily Record,” it consists of six women and one man. The prosecution announced that, in addition to Adams, a police officer from Dedham is also expected to testify.

“NBC Boston” reports that the trial is expected to last only a few days. About ten people are on the potential witness list.

The trial comes at a difficult time for Diggs. The 33-year-old is currently a free agent. The Patriots released him in March, thereby creating $16.8 million in cap space. In his only season in New England, Diggs caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. It was the seventh 1,000-yard season of his career.

Before his time with the Patriots, Diggs played for the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, and Houston Texans. The four-time Pro Bowler is currently looking for a new team. The ongoing trial could significantly impact his athletic future.
