After the Super Bowl in Santa Clara between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, tragedy almost struck: Keion White of the San Francisco 49ers was shot shortly afterwards.
San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Keion White was shot in the early hours of Monday morning in San Francisco.
The 49ers star suffered a gunshot wound to his ankle and underwent successful surgery in the afternoon.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the incident occurred at around 4:06 a.m. local time in a store on the 1700 block of Mission Street. Shots were fired during a verbal altercation between two groups. White was hit in the ankle.
Super Bowl 2026: Former Patriot White was in the stadium
An unknown perpetrator fled the scene. Police have classified the player’s injury as non-life-threatening. No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is ongoing.
The San Francisco 49ers confirmed the incident and said White had come through the surgery well. “We will provide further updates when appropriate,” the team said in a brief statement.
The incident occurred just hours after White watched Super Bowl LX live at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday evening. The former Patriots player had shared photos and videos on Instagram of his visit to the stadium, where the New England Patriots lost to the Seattle Seahawks.
San Francisco 49ers: Second gunshot wound of the season
White had only been traded from the Patriots to the 49ers at the end of October 2024. In the current season, including the playoffs, he played in eleven games for San Francisco (two starts) and recorded 16 tackles, 2.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, and one fumble recovery.
This is the second shooting incident involving a player in San Francisco in the past 18 months for the 49ers. In August 2024, wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery. Pearsall missed the first six games of the season but made a full recovery and was later able to play again.
