NFL: Hafley succeeds McDaniel in Miami

The Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL) have signed Jeff Hafley as their new head coach. The 46-year-old, who impressed as defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers over the past two seasons, succeeds Mike McDaniel, who had to leave after a disappointing season with only seven wins.

“I believe the Miami Dolphins have a great future ahead of them with Jeff Hafley at the helm,” said Dolphins owner Stephen Ross: “Jeff is an accomplished coach with a proven track record as a leader and motivator.” According to US media reports, Hafley is said to have signed a five-year contract.

In Miami, Hafley will be reunited with Jon-Eric Sullivan, with whom he previously worked in Green Bay. Sullivan most recently succeeded Chris Grier as general manager. The new duo is expected to end the franchise’s long dry spell. The Florida franchise has not won a playoff game in 25 seasons, the longest wait of any team in the NFL.

Prior to his time with the Packers, Hafley served as an assistant coach with the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had previously worked as a head coach in college football.
