NFL – New England Patriots: Marcus Jones extends his contract by three years

The Patriots are keeping one of their top performers and giving him a new three-year contract.

He is one of the reasons for the New England Patriots’ (6-2) successful season so far and has now been rewarded for his performances.

Marcus Jones has extended his contract with the Patriots by three years. What NFL experts Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero had previously reported was confirmed by the franchise shortly afterwards.

What makes the 27-year-old so valuable is his tremendous versatility. He excels as a cornerback in the secondary as well as a punt returner on special teams.

Jones provides highlight with 87-yard return touchdown

The third-round pick set records in his rookie season in 2022. He led the league in both total yards on punt returns and average yards per punt return.

He is again leading the NFL in this category in the current season with 21.6 yards per punt return. This high average is partly due to his 87-yard return touchdown in the Patriots’ Week 4 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

In addition, he is also becoming an increasingly important factor on defense. With two interceptions so far, he has already matched his career best. He also recorded the first sack of his career in Week 6 in the victory over the New Orleans Saints.

Jones’ form has been so outstanding this season that head coach Mike Vrabel has already had to answer questions about whether he would even use the versatile pro on offense. His response: “We’re considering anything that helps us score and win.”
