NFL: Tampa Bay Buccaneers secure last-minute victory despite blocked punt by Jakob Johnson – Los Angeles Chargers defeat Las Vegas Raiders

Last-minute victory for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Monday Night Football against the Houston Texans, with fullback Jakob Johnson blocking a punt. The Los Angeles Chargers also defeat the Las Vegas Raiders.

Despite a spectacular play by German fullback Jakob Johnson, the Houston Texans lost their second game of the 2025 NFL season.

The Stuttgart native, who was promoted from the practice squad, blocked a punt by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday night, giving his team a chance to win, but the Texans ultimately lost 19-20 at home.

Johnson also made an important block on Nick Chubb’s touchdown run, but Rachaad White responded with just six seconds left on the clock to save the Buccaneers’ victory. The Bucs have started the season with two wins for the fifth time in a row.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield led his team with 215 passing yards (25/38 passes, two touchdowns, no interceptions). The Texans, on the other hand, are 0-2 because they failed to convert a two-point conversion with just over two minutes remaining and the score at 19-14. This was followed by the decisive Bucs drive over eleven plays and 80 yards.

NFL: Los Angeles Chargers beat Las Vegas Raiders

In the final game of the day, the Los Angeles Chargers prevailed 20-9 over the Las Vegas Raiders and are now alone at the top of the AFC West.

Quarterback Justin Herbert led the Chargers’ surprisingly pass-happy offense, as he did last week, throwing the team’s only two touchdowns and keeping the plays alive with his legs when things weren’t going so well (19/27 passes, 242 passing yards, 0 interceptions, 9 rushes for 31 yards). The highlight of the game was a 60-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Quentin Johnston.

Although head coach Jim Harbaugh’s team lost star pass rusher Khalil Mack to an elbow injury in the first quarter, LA’s defense continued to play strongly and forced several turnovers from Raiders quarterback Geno Smith (24/43 passes, 180 passing yards, 0 touchdowns, 3 interceptions).

The bad news of the day came from the Cincinnati Bengals: star quarterback Joe Burrow will be out for most of the regular season. The 28-year-old playmaker will need surgery for an injury to his big toe joint (“turf toe”) sustained in the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars (31-27), his coach Zac Taylor confirmed. According to ESPN, he will be out for around three months.
