Kirk Barton is facing serious allegations. The former NFL pro is accused of negligently killing a person.
Bad news from Kirk Barton. The former NFL guard has been charged with a felony after allegedly driving drunk and causing an accident that killed the other driver.
Barton is facing a second-degree felony charge and, according to NBC 4, is accused of negligent homicide as a result of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
According to a statement from the Dublin Police Department in Ohio, the fatal accident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Barton is suspected of driving a pickup truck at high speed and hitting another car. The driver of that car, a 24-year-old man, died at the scene of the accident.
Former NFL pro Kirk Barton admitted to drinking alcohol
Court documents obtained by the station indicate that Barton was apparently driving on the wrong side of the road before the crash. In addition, he was reportedly slurring his words and smelling of alcohol when the police arrived.
According to the documents, he was unable to answer basic questions and admitted to having consumed alcohol.
Barton, now 40, played college football for Ohio State and was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the seventh round in 2008. He also played for the Dolphins, Bengals, Lions, Broncos, and Panthers.
