NFL-Kansas City Chiefs: Xavier Worthy receives a restraining order after being accused of assault

A restraining order has been obtained against Wide Receiver Xavier Worthy of the Kansas City Chiefs. The 21-year-old was previously accused of assault. However, no charges were filed.

The situation around wide receiver Xavier Worthy is still unclear. A few days ago, the Kansas City Chiefs professional was accused of “assaulting a family or household member by obstructing breathing or blood circulation”.

Worthy was initially arrested but released the following day. After speaking with several witnesses, the district attorney did not press charges.

Now, the person involved, Tia Jones, has obtained a protective order against Worthy. Her lawyers stated that Jones “is fully cooperating with law enforcement, who are actively investigating the violence that occurred”.

And further: “Ms. Jones has decided to use her voice to speak for herself. […] She is looking forward to the facts and circumstances of that night coming to light through the legal process and getting the justice she deserves”.

Meanwhile, Worthy’s lawyers assert his innocence. The accusation comes from a woman who lived in Worthy’s house and who has been asked to leave several times in the last two weeks “after her infidelity was discovered”.

And further: “She refused to leave the apartment and made a series of blackmail attempts before making this unfounded accusation against Mr. Worthy,” said Worthy’s lawyers.

“The complainant also destroyed a room in the apartment, scratched Mr. Worthy’s face and pulled out parts of his hair, for which there is photographic evidence. Worthy told law enforcement at the time of the incident that he did not want to press charges against the complainant.”

Xavier Worthy with strong numbers

The Kansas City Chiefs have not yet commented on the incident and want to collect more information first.

Worthy was only selected in the first round of the NFL Draft in 2024 in 28th place. Prior to that, he set a new record of 4.21 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the Combine.

In his first season, he caught 59 balls for 638 yards and six touchdowns. He also ran the ball 20 times for an additional 104 yards and three touchdowns.

He lost the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles with the Chiefs, but caught all eight passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns in the game.
