In a new Netflix series, Aaron Rodgers shows a very personal side of himself. A curious clip shows the quarterback during one of his ayahuasca trips.
In the Netflix documentary “Aaron Rodgers: Enigma,” the Jets quarterback is followed during his rehabilitation after tearing his Achilles tendon in just four snaps last NFL season.
The 41-year-old provides a deep insight into his personal journey of self-discovery and his use of psychedelics, especially ayahuasca.
Ayahuasca, a psychoactive potion used in indigenous Amazonian cultures for spiritual ceremonies, became a central part of his healing.
In the documentary, Rodgers speaks openly about trying to overcome his perfectionism and dissatisfaction with his religious upbringing.
The four-time MVP reveals that he has consumed ayahuasca a total of nine times in four different retreats. He sought hope and healing through these ceremonies, particularly after his severe Achilles tendon injury.
A curious scene shows Rodgers during a retreat, talking about caterpillars and butterflies in a psychedelic state.

At least athletically, the ayahuasca retreats don’t seem to have had any effect yet: the Jets are currently in third place in the AFC East with a record of 4-10. The team was eliminated from the playoff race a few weeks ago.
Rodgers himself is not playing a particularly bad season, but by his standards he is below average. The quarterback has so far completed 3,255 passing yards, throwing 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
