Aaron Rodgers returns for his first home game after his serious injury – and shines as in the old days.

This is how Aaron Rodgers might have imagined his return to MetLife Stadium. For the first time since his serious injury on the first NFL match day of the preseason, the 40-year-old was back as the starting quarterback on his home turf – and with great success.

At the start of the third game day, the New York Jets beat the New England Patriots in the AFC East division duel with 24:3.

While “Aaron Rodgers” chants echoed through the stadium, the playmaker completed 27 of 35 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns. He did not have to accept an interception, instead he was as precise as in earlier times. A-Rod threw touchdown passes to Allen Lazard and Garrett Wilson, and Breece Hall also ran into the end zone.

Also encouraging from the Jets’ point of view: the defense put in a dominant performance and, with the exception of a field goal in the second quarter, allowed nothing.
The Patriots, on the other hand, with quarterback Jacoby Brissett, never got off the ground, gaining just 40 yards with only four first downs in the entire first half. The Patriots have not had fewer first downs in a half since 2000.

Brissett completed 12 of 18 passes for 98 yards. He was replaced by rookie Drake Maye, who made his NFL debut, with just over four minutes left in the game. Maye completed four of eight passes for 22 yards.

New England has now suffered its second defeat of the season, leaving the Jets with two wins and one defeat.
