The Kansas City Chiefs are devastated after their Super Bowl defeat, but the Philadelphia Eagles deserve respect. Reactions to the game.
The Philadelphia Eagles have won Super Bowl LIX, while the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a debacle in the final of the NFL season in New Orleans.
The Eagles dominated the game almost at will and won 40:22.
The Chiefs didn’t get into the game at all for a long time and missed the historic chance to win the third Super Bowl in a row.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to reporters after the game: “Every time you lose the Super Bowl, it’s the worst feeling in the world that will stay with you for the rest of your career. These two losses will motivate me to get even better for the rest of my career because you only have so many of these, and you have to take advantage of them, and they probably hurt more than wins feel good.”
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes at the press conference: “Yes, hats off to the Eagles. They played better than us from start to finish. We didn’t start the way we wanted to. Of course the turnovers hurt, so I just have to take all the blame for that.”
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce to the Washington Post: “Hats off to the Eagles, man. They came after us. In all three phases. I mean, they attacked us in all three phases, and then there were turnovers, penalties, and it all added up. There are a lot of factors that contributed to this. We haven’t played that badly all year.”
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid at the press conference: “Today was a tough day. We didn’t really play well. We didn’t coach well enough. The Eagles did a good job. But I’m proud of our guys for the fight they’ve shown all year. I take my hat off to that. And we’ll learn from it, like we do from most games where you don’t perform as well. You learn from it as a coach, you learn from it as a player, and you move on.”
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts after the game, as reported by Fox Sports: ”God is great. I embrace every experience and learn from it. From good and bad. But I couldn’t do it without the people around me. Today we saw again: Defense wins Championships. It made the difference today. I can’t wait to enjoy this success with my family.”
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni after the game on Fox Sports: “It’s the ultimate team game. You can’t be great without the greatness of others. Nobody let each other down. It was a great performance by everyone. We didn’t care what anyone else thought about how we won. We just wanted to win.”
Eagles defensive back Cooper DeJean on winning and making the pick on his birthday: “I’ve dreamed about this since I was a kid watching this game growing up. Now I’ve won the Super Bowl and got to wear a big ring on my finger – it’s amazing. It’s crazy. On the pick, I was just thinking about scoring a touchdown. I was trying to find the fastest route to the end zone. Luckily, I got a couple of blocks out there. I had to avoid some of those big guys.”
