In an interview, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell comments on current referee performance in the NFL – and chooses surprising words.
The referees play a very important role in the NFL. In some cases, a decision by them can even decide entire games.
Now, in a media roundtable during the Super Bowl, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was asked about the performance of the officials this season.
“If you look at the performance of the referees, it’s never really been as good as it is today,” the 63-year-old said with clarity of opinion. “Our referees do an excellent job. Are there also mistakes in this context? Yes. They are not perfect and refereeing will never be perfect.”
Recently, criticism of the officials’ performance has been growing louder. In the Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals, among others, the refereeing crew made a number of mistakes.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers expressed during the season that the quality of the referees has gotten significantly worse.
