Surprising end to NFL career: Cornerback Ronald Darby is hanging up his cleats at age 31.
According to ESPN, the veteran informed the Houston Texans, with whom he had signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract in March, that he was retiring. The Texans now have to rethink their defensive backfield.
Ronald Darby: 2017 Super Bowl champion with the Eagles
Darby, who entered the league in 2015 as a second-round pick of the Buffalo Bills, looks back on a ten-year career with six teams. His greatest triumph was winning the 2017 Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles against the New England Patriots.
In 118 games, he recorded 447 tackles, 106 passes defended and eight interceptions. Despite injury problems with the Denver Broncos, he once again showed his class in 2024 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, recording 46 tackles and nine passes defended.
He had previously won the national college championship with Florida State in 2013 and was considered one of the most promising cornerbacks in his draft class.
