NFL playoffs 2025: TV expert Greg Olsen unhappy with Super Bowl scheduling: “It’s annoying”

Greg Olsen is not allowed to participate in his channel “Fox”’s broadcast of the Super Bowl. He has now expressed his displeasure about this – and is putting pressure on his employer.

The Philadelphia Eagles will face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59. It’s almost a repeat of two years ago, when the two teams already faced each other in the final for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Even the broadcasting station is the same as “Fox”, as is main commentator Kevin Burkhardt. What has changed, however, is the expert at his side.

Tom Brady will be analyzing the plays this time. At Super Bowl 57 in Las Vegas, it was former tight end Greg Olsen. The fact that he is not there this time gives him something to think about.

Super Bowl 59: Greg Olsen not there as TV expert

In an interview with the Charlotte Observer, the 39-year-old was unusually clear about his situation at the broadcaster. “I’m not happy with my role as number two, and everyone there knows it,” said the former Carolina Panthers pro. He is clear in his comment that he will not play a role in the Super Bowl: “It sucks.”

Burkhardt and Brady are the network’s new top duo. Each network has a top game duo that is allowed to broadcast the most important games. At “CBS” it’s Jim Nantz and Tony Romo, at “ESPN” it’s Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, at “NBC” it’s Mike Tirico and Chris Collinsworth, and “Prime Video” relies on Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit.

However, Olsen is not ready to throw in the towel just yet. “I know I will commentate on Super Bowls and other big games again,” he says, fighting. “I just don’t know the place or the time yet.”

He also increased the pressure on the broadcaster: “Fox knows that I don’t want to spend my life just broadcasting regional afternoon games.” Olsen is referring to the NFL’s Sunday 7 p.m. kick-off time, which is considered the least attractive.

Olsen’s contract with Fox expires after the 2026 season, while Brady’s contract still has a full nine years to run.
