Frank Reich is apparently set for a comeback as a coach in the NFL. The New York Jets are reportedly looking to add him to their coaching staff.
The New York Jets are apparently looking to bolster their offense with plenty of experience: according to a report by “SNYtv,” the Jets are currently working on signing Frank Reich.
The 64-year-old former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers is expected to assist the team in an as yet unspecified role on the coaching staff.
However, the Jets are not planning to dismiss their current offensive coordinator, Tanner Engstrand. Instead, Engstrand’s role is to be adjusted. Reich would presumably take over play calling and thus bear responsibility for game planning.
The aim of the move is to solve the ongoing problems on offense: Last season, the Jets ranked 29th in both yards and points, well behind the rest of the league. Their passing game was the worst in the entire NFL. At least the Jets ranked tenth in rushing.
NFL: Frank Reich has already won the Super Bowl
Frank Reich can look back on a long and colorful career. The experienced coach was offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers from 2014 to 2015 and held the same position with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016/17, where he won Super Bowl LII.
From 2018 to 2022, Reich served as head coach of the Colts, where he worked with quarterback Andrew Luck and later with Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan. In 2023, he took over the same position with the Panthers, but was fired after a weak season.
In the 2025 season, he stepped in as interim coach at Stanford and is currently serving as senior advisor for the college program.
