NFL: After losing a million at the Super Bowl, Drake announces his retirement from sports betting

At the Super Bowl, rap superstar Drake bet a million dollars on a New England Patriots victory—and lost. This loss has consequences.

Canadian rap superstar Drake is notorious for his sports betting, and at the recent Super Bowl, the 39-year-old really wanted to know. Drake bet a million dollars on a New England Patriots victory. The result is well known: the Seattle Seahawks won fairly comfortably 29-13, making not only their own fans happy, but also the betting company where Drake placed his bet.

Apparently, this loss was too much even for the filthy rich music star, and sports betting is now off the table—at least for the time being. He wrote in a video on Instagram: “I’m out of sports betting.”

Instead, he wants to focus on something “I know” – but the fact that this post was probably meant to be ironic is evident from the activity he is engaged in in the video, namely online roulette.

“Drake curse” became a catchphrase

And even there, things don’t seem to be going well at first, as his reaction suggests. At least things get a little better as the video progresses.

So it remains to be seen whether Drake has actually said goodbye to sports betting or whether this was just a self-deprecating comment on his Super Bowl prediction.

For some of the athletes and teams he has bet on in the past, his retirement would probably be good news. The “Drake curse” has long been a catchphrase for athletes and teams who lost their matches after Drake bet on them—even though they were considered favorites.
