Los Angeles Rams: Praise for Baker Mayfield after strong debut against Las Vegas Raiders

Baker Mayfield makes his debut for the reigning Super Bowl champions in the Los Angeles Rams’ 17-16 win over the Las Vegas Raiders and delivers straight away. Afterwards, the 27-year-old receives a lot of praise.

Munich/Inglewood – Baker Mayfield is receiving praise from all quarters after his strong performance in his Los Angeles Rams’ 17-16 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

“You can’t say enough about Baker Mayfield and his leadership, his resilience and his toughness. And how quickly he learns. I mean, he came in five minutes ago and found a way to do some special things,” Head Coach Sean McVay said after the game.

Los Angeles Rams: Mayfield with strong last drive

Especially in the Rams’ final drive of 98 yards, the playmaker (230 passing yards, one touchdown) presented himself with nerves of steel and led his team to victory with only 1:41 minutes left on the clock, which of course also pleased his head coach.

“I was really impressed. I wouldn’t say I was surprised because I’ve always been a fan of what he’s capable of. He certainly exceeded all of our expectations and it was fun to watch him work today,” McVay was pleased with his new signing’s performance.

Wide receiver Van Jefferson, who caught the decisive touchdown pass just seconds before the end of the game, also had warm words for his quarterback afterwards. “For him to come in and do what he just did shows how determined he is and what kind of guy he is. I’m glad he’s here,” the pass receiver said on Amazon Prime Video.

Mayfield: “Trying to be who I am “

And Mayfield himself? He was equally pleased afterwards, thanking his team for their support since his arrival: “It speaks to the culture of the Locker Room. They come here and still want to be competitive, even though the record speaks for itself. They have welcomed me and fought until the end.”

He continued, “I just try to be me and not let the other things affect me. To be who I am and kind of be a leader. I love this game and I love competing. I just enjoy that. “

Despite the comeback win, the Rams stand at just 4-9 with the playoffs out of reach. Mayfield and Co. face the Green Bay Packers next week, when the playmaker should be on the field from the start for the first time.
