Ex-NFL running back Marion Barber dies at 38

The NFL is mourning the loss of ex-running back Marion Barber III.The 38-year-old died Wednesday in Fresno, Texas. The cause of death is still unclear.

Munich/Dallas – Former NFL running back Marion Barber is dead.

The 38-year-old died Wednesday, according to police, and was found by authorities at his home. Barber played seven seasons in the NFL, ending his career in 2011.

Cowboys statement

The Dallas Cowboys, for whom Barber played from 2005 to 2010, released a statement on Wednesday night US time. “Our hearts are broken following this tragic news,” the Texas franchise wrote.

“Marion was an old-school running back who ran head first and showed the will to win on every play,” it continued.

Barber totalled 4,780 yards of space gained and 53 touchdowns in his career.

His most famous run was “the best two-yard run in NFL history” when he turned a threatening safety into a gain against the New England Patriots.
