Former NFL star Antonio Brown has been extradited from Dubai to the US. This was announced by the Miami Police Department on their X account. Brown, who is facing attempted murder charges in connection with a shooting in May, was located and arrested in Dubai.
“Brown was then extradited by US Marshals to Essex County, New Jersey, where he is currently being held pending extradition to Miami-Dade County Jail,” the statement said. Police accuse Super Bowl winner Brown of firing the shots on May 16 at an amateur boxing event in Miami.
A copy of the original June arrest warrant states that several witnesses saw Brown fire shots after a physical altercation with another man. According to the warrant, Brown had snatched the gun from a security guard. A retired police officer who was providing security at the event arrested Brown before other police officers arrived. No weapon was found on Brown.
The former wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers commented on the incident in a post on X on May 17, stating that he had been “attacked by several individuals who attempted to steal my jewelry and physically harm me.” When the arrest warrant was issued in June, Brown did not turn himself in and subsequently posted on X that he was “out of the country.”
This is not Brown’s first legal dispute. The 2021 Super Bowl winner with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was accused of sexual assault in a civil lawsuit filed by a former trainer in 2019. He later settled out of court. In 2020, he pleaded not guilty in a burglary and assault case after an incident with a moving company outside his home. Brown’s NFL career ended in 2022 when he took off his jersey during a Buccaneers game against the New York Jets and stormed off the field.
