The email scandal surrounding Raiders coach Jon Gruden, who has since resigned, continues to unfold. Now Gruden has also been removed from Madden 22.
Munich – After old emails from Jon Gruden from his time as part of an NFL investigation came to light, he subsequently resigned. In the emails, Gruden used racist, homophobic and misogynistic language.
Now gaming giant EA Sports has drawn the consequences from the scandal. Gruden has been removed from the football simulation Madden NFL 22. “EA Sports is committed to taking steps to maintain a culture of inclusion and equality,” the Madden maker stated on its official Twitter account, “due to the circumstances surrounding Jon Gruden’s resignation, we are taking steps to remove him from Madden NFL 22. We will be replacing him with a generic likeness through a title update in the coming weeks.”
Previously, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with whom Gruden won a Super Bowl, removed him from their Ring of Honor. In addition, the coach lost sponsorship deals.
Smith and Goodell insulted
Ten years ago, during the 2011 lockout, Gruden sent about an email to the then-president of the Washington football team.
In it, Gruden wrote that the black president of the NFL Players Association, DeMaurice Smith, had “lips the size of Michelin tyres.”
Several emails from Gruden were available to several US media outlets. According to reports, Gruden also insulted NFL boss Roger Goodell as a “faggot” and a “p*ssy” in emails.
In 2018, Gruden signed a ten-year contract with the Raiders that would have paid him a total of 100 million euros. But now he resigned precisely because of the email scandal.
