The Green Bay Packers dismantled the Dallas Cowboys with a 48:32 victory. Quarterback Jordan Love had a great day. An offseason with many question marks could begin for the Cowboys.
The Green Bay Packers have caused the first big surprise in the NFL playoffs. In the Wild Card Round, Head Coach Matt LaFleur’s team beat the favored Dallas Cowboys 48:32.
From the first snap to the last, the Packers were in control of the game and never trailed at AT&T Stadium.
Quarterback Jordan Love excelled in the offense. The youngster completed 16 of his 21 passes for 272 yards and three touchdowns. He repeatedly demonstrated his improvisation skills and throwing accuracy. Head coach LaFleur was also impressed. His schematic tricks caught the Cowboys defense on the wrong foot several times. Love did not notch a single sack.
Packers defense shuts down Cowboys offense
Several Packers pass receivers were able to make their mark on the game. Wide receiver Romeo Doubs turned six catches into 151 yards and a touchdown. Dontayvion Wicks and Luke Musgrave each caught a touchdown. On the ground, running back Aaron Jones collected 118 rushing yards and a whopping three touchdowns.
The Cowboys’ offense, meanwhile, found few answers for a long time against a venomous Packers defense. Prescott finished a first quarter with zero passing yards for the first time in his career. In the second half, the Cowboys cobbled together some good drives.
The veteran found a target on 41 of his 60 passes for a total of 403 yards and three touchdowns. However, the QB threw the majority of these numbers, which on paper look strong, at a time when the game had long been decided. Prescott also threw two interceptions, including a pick six by Darnell Savage.
Wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup cracked the 100-yard mark, tight end Jake Ferguson gained 93 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Cowboys: Uncertain times ahead?
On the ground, running back Tony Pollard picked up 56 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Packers continue next week in the Divisional Round against the San Francisco 49ers.
For the Cowboys, a promising season comes to an abrupt end – not for the first time under the leadership of Head Coach Mike McCarthy.
The future of the Cowboys’ coaching staff appears uncertain. Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is on the radar of several franchises as a potential head coach, and McCarthy’s chair is also rumored to be shaky.
The Cowboys have failed to reach the Wild Card Round in two of the last three seasons and the Divisional Round in 2022. Not enough for the high expectations in Dallas?
