Running back Brian Robinson of the Washington Commanders is shot during a robbery on Sunday night and has to go to hospital with gunshot wounds. According to his team, however, the 23-year-old’s condition is stable.
Munich/Washington D.C. – Brian Robinson of the Washington Commanders was the victim of an assault on Sunday, NFL police confirmed.
The running back was shot and injured with two gunshots. His team gave at least some reassurance that the injuries were not life-threatening.
The Commanders referred to the rookie’s privacy and explained that team officials were with him at the hospital. They said nothing is yet known about the degree of his injury. However, the shots are believed to have hit his legs.
According to police, two suspects were seen fleeing the scene and a gun was also found. However, no further information was available at this time.
Robinson was selected in the third round of this year’s draft by the Commanders and put up strong numbers in two preseason games. The rookie scored 14 runs, 57 yards and a touchdown, arguably playing his way into the rotation with Antonio Gibson.
Washington head coach Ron Rivera tweeted, “I just visited with Brian. He is in good spirits and I should thank everyone for their kind words and prayers. He will be back as soon as possible doing what he does best.”
