Munich/Washington – Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder is planning to sell his franchise. The team confirmed this on social media. The 57-year-old has been repeatedly involved in scandals in recent years. Most recently, Colt owner Jim Irsay argued that Snyder should step down as owner.
The Commanders statement said that “Bank of America Securities has been hired to plan potential transactions.” Dan Snyder and his wife Tanya want to continue to “do the right thing for the team, provide the best product on the field for the employees and fans, and ensure high standards in the workplace. “
Washington Commanders: long list of allegations
In the past, the Commanders have been accused of having a poor work culture and, in several cases, of sexually harassing and insulting employees. The franchise paid a fine of ten million US dollars in the summer of 2021, following an investigation.
The “House of Committee on Oversight and Reform”, i.e. the most important investigative committee of the US House of Representatives, also accused the club in a letter to the “Federal Trade Commission” of having embezzled funds.
Washington Commanders probably worth several billion US dollars
Most recently, Colts owner Jim Irsay had caused a stir. At a press conference at the NFL owners’ meeting, he said of the Snyder case: “I do think there’s a will to get rid of him as an owner.”
Just an hour later, there was a statement from a Commanders spokesman condemning the Colts owner’s statements. “It is very inappropriate, yet not surprising, for Mr Irsay to speak out, based on false information provided by the media,” it said.
“Forbes” estimated the value of the Commanders at just under US$5.6 billion in August. Most recently, the Denver Broncos were sold for US$4.65 billion.
