Munich – Tom Brady is now officially calling it quits. The career of the seven-time Super Bowl winner is over. The 44-year-old made the announcement in a long statement on his social media accounts.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reacted promptly. The 62-year-old highlighted Brady’s extraordinary accomplishments and underscored his importance to the sport and the league.
Goodell’s statement in full:
“Tom Brady will be remembered as one of the greatest NFL players of all time. An incredible competitor and leader. His career is remarkable not only for its length, but also because Tom consistently played at the highest level year after year.
He made everyone around him better and always gave his very best in the biggest moments. His five Super Bowl MVP awards and seven Super Bowl titles will serve as career goals for players in the future.
Tom has inspired fans in New England, Tampa and around the world with one of the greatest careers in NFL history. It was an honour to see him play in the NFL.
We thank him for all he has given to the game and wish Tom and his family the best in the future. “
