Tom Brady leaves his future open: “Sometimes it takes time”

Football superstar Tom Brady is leaving his future in the NFL open, but his retirement has not been decided.

Munich/Tampa Bay – Football superstar Tom Brady continues to leave his future in the NFL open, the retirement is at least not decided. On the podcast “Let’s Go!” Brady said: “Sometimes it takes a little time to really figure out how you feel and what you want to do.” The 44-year-old assured he would make the decision “at the right time”, “one way or the other”.

Brady wants to look from “day to day “

“There is a lot of interest in when I will stop playing. And I understand that. It’s not that I don’t recognise that. But I just don’t know until I know. And if I don’t know, then I don’t know. I’m not going to rush to any conclusion,” he clarifies. “I will look from day to day, moment to moment, that’s really how it is. I have to find out for myself when I am completely sure. I understand that my decision will affect the lives of many people. The decision will come when it comes.”

ESPN had announced the seven-time Super Bowl winner’s career ending on Saturday, six days after his play-off exit with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The NFL and Brady’s company “TB12 Sports” congratulated him via Twitter on his successful career, but his agent Don Yee and father Tom sr. stated that the quarterback had not yet made his final decision.

Brady on this past weekend: “Phone was ringing all the time “

The speculation had ruined a quiet weekend for him with his family, Brady now said. “My phone kept ringing, but that’s just part of my situation,” said the father of three. Regretfully, he found the news of his supposed retirement from the Championship Games at the weekend distracting: “I was a little disappointed that that would actually be a part of what’s going on in NFL football, which to me is such an amazing sport. The focus should be on these great games.”

But what does his decision depend on now? “I think my motivation to play football is to win and be successful. Maybe what people might say or think plays a little bit into it, but I’m mostly motivated from within and want to be the best I can be for my teammates, my coaches and my organisation.”

Brady has played in the NFL for 22 years, winning six titles with the New England Patriots and also triumphing with the Buccaneers after moving to Florida last year. He is a sports icon in the USA, there are hardly any passing, winning or touchdown records that he does not hold. This season, Brady failed to make the play-offs with the Bucs against the Los Angeles Rams.
