Tom Brady is calling it a day. Now also quite officially. The seven-time Super Bowl winner announces the end of his legendary NFL career in a long statement on social platforms. The speech in the wording.
Munich – Now it’s official: Tom Brady is ending his career after 22 years and seven Super Bowl titles.
On social platforms, the G.O.A.T. announced his departure in a multi-page statement thanking his teammates, fans and family.
Brady’s farewell in wording:
“I’ve always believed that in football you have to be ‘all-in’. If you can’t compete 100 per cent, you won’t succeed. And success is what I love about our game.
It’s the physical, mental and emotional challenge on EVERY single day that allowed me to play to my full potential. And I have given my very best over the past 22 years. There are no shortcuts on the road to success on the field and in life.
It’s hard for me to write this, but I’m doing it anyway: I’m not going to face this challenge again. I have loved my NFL career, but now it is time to devote my energy and time to other things that need my attention.
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and asking myself tough questions this past week. And I am so proud of what we have achieved. My teammates, coaches, opponents and fans deserve 100 per cent from me, but it is best now that I leave the field to the next generation.
To my teammates on the Bucs these past two years: I love you guys and I loved going into battle with you. You guys were always trying to outdo yourselves, and that gave me the inspiration to wake up every day and give you my best.
I’m always here for you guys, and I want to see you guys continue to work hard to get better. I couldn’t be happier about what we’ve accomplished together.
Thank you to all the Bucs fans. When I first got here, I didn’t know what to expect. But your support and love have enriched my life and that of my family. It has been an honour to play for such a ledient and fun fanbase. What a Krewe!
Thank you to the city of Tampa and the entire Tampa-St. Petersburg region. Living in such a great place has been wonderful. I want to be invited to our next boat parade!
To the Glazer family, thank you for putting your trust in me and supporting me. I know it was a lot to ask at times, but you gave us everything we needed to win, and that’s all a player can ask of owners.
To Jason Licht: Thank you for your daily support and friendship – I will never forget it. I was never a free agent before that and doubted our success, but you gave me confidence and for that I will always be grateful.
To all the Bucs coaches, my sincere thanks for all the hard work, dedication and discipline it takes to build a winning team. I have learned so much from all of you and will always cherish our connection.
Thank you to each and every Bucs staff member. Every single one of you is crucial and I was greeted with a smile every day. That means so much to me. Your work is long and hard, but please know that I see each and every one of you. Thank you so much.
Thank you to Alex Guerrero. I could never have done this every Sunday without you. It’s as simple as that. Your dedication to your craft and our friendship and brotherhood cannot be measured. We are inseparable, I love you.
Thank you to Don Yee and Steve Dublin. You have been with me every step of the way since I left the University of Michigan. What a journey! I couldn’t have done it without you guys.
To my parents and my entire family (and extended family and countless friends): I love you. Thank you for your eternal support and love. I never dreamed how much time and energy you guys have given me over my past 30 years in football. I just love you guys so much.
And, last but not least, to my wife Gisele and my kids Jack, Benny and Vivi. You guys are my inspiration. My family is my greatest achievement. Whenever I left the field and came home, there was a woman waiting for me who couldn’t love and support us more, who did EVERYTHING for our family so I could focus on my career.
Your selflessness allowed me to reach new heights in my profession. Words cannot describe what you mean to me and our family. I love you with all my heart.
My active career has been such an exciting ride, beyond all my expectations, full of ups and downs. When you’re in the middle of it, you don’t think about the end.
But as I sit here now, I think of all the great players and coaches I had the privilege to play with and against. The competition was passionate and strong, EXACTLY AS WE LOVE IT. But just as passionate and strong are the friendships and relationships. I will cherish those moments and remember them often.
I am the luckiest person in the world.
The future is exciting. I’m lucky to have co-founded incredible companies like @autograph.io, @bradybrand and @tb12sports, and I look forward to helping them continue to grow. But exactly what my day-to-day will look like remains to be seen.
Like I said, I’ll be thinking day to day. I know for sure that I want to spend a lot of time helping others and enriching the lives of others, as so many have done for me.
