Tom Brady and the Tampa Buccaneers suffered their eighth defeat of the season in Week 15. In his podcast, the quarterback superstar talks about his emotional life
By three o’clock on Monday morning, Tom Brady was already awake again. It is not surprising that someone who is not used to defeats is deprived of sleep.
Eight already this season, two in a row, the last one (23:34) against the Cincinnati Bengals after a 17:0 lead was particularly bitter.
The playoffs are only still within reach because the NFC South shines with modest quality. Because the Bucs’ record is actually still enough to lead the standings three game days before the end of the Regular Season.
Tom Brady self-critical after another defeat
But it’s boiling inside Brady. “Losing is sh–,” he said on his “Let’s Go!” podcast. “There’s not a lot of explaining to do. Unfortunately, I’ve had to do that too many times this year. So I just learn from it and try to get better.” Brady is self-critical about it. “You can’t win when the quarterback has four turnovers. And that’s on me. That’s how I feel.” The 45-year-old threw two interceptions and committed two fumbles against the Bengals.
Brady was then asked the interesting question of how he was dealing with this unusually difficult season for him from an emotional perspective.
He agrees that it should be about winning, Brady said, “but I also look at it this way: what do I learn from putting in a similar amount of energy as the last couple of years and not winning? Why should we feel we have a right to always win?”
That’s not what life is about, Brady said, getting a little philosophical. “Anyone who struggles in life with their job or other aspects of life should ask themselves what they learn from it when they put in effort and energy, not why it’s happening to them and for them.” One is not a victim and can do something about it, he cautioned. “This is not the time to feel sorry for yourself. So get up, get to work and do better, improve and work harder and more determined. “
