Carlton Davis III believes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are ready for the upcoming season even without Tom Brady. The cornerback thinks the title is doable and threatens the competition
Despite the retirement of Tom Brady, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still a force to be reckoned with – at least if Carlton Davis III has his way.
Addressing the entire NFL, the cornerback told the “Go Long” portal: “We’ll show them! Anyone who thinks we’ve lost some strength without Tom [Brady] is in for a rude awakening.”
The quarterback has been an important building block, he said, but football is a team sport and Tampa has the pieces to succeed.
Confidence in his team has something to do not only with his peers, but also with himself. “I’m only getting better,” the 26-year-old said of his own abilities.
Even without Brady: Davis believes in Super Bowl
Even Davis wouldn’t rule out the next title after the 2020/21 season, announcing martially, “Our division is worse than it was before. So we destroy the division, get to the playoffs, destroy again – and we’re in the Super Bowl.”
But it probably won’t be quite as easy as the defensive back envisions winning the title.
Still, a playoff appearance doesn’t seem out of the question. Last year, eight wins were enough for Tampa Bay, led by Brady, to win the NFC South, as the remaining three clubs each had a record of just 7-10.
The Buccaneers are expected to enter next season with Baker Mayfield as their starting quarterback, Tampa’s fourth franchise in two years.
