Despite a stellar performance by Amon-Ra St. Brown, the Detroit Lions suffered another setback in their quest for a playoff spot in the National Football League (NFL). The team, led by the brilliant German-American, lost 34-41 to the Los Angeles Rams and must continue to fear missing out on the postseason.
St. Brown scored two touchdowns and set a personal season record with 164 receiving yards. The wide receiver, who caught 13 of 18 passes, is now just one touchdown away from equaling his previous best from last season. “That’s really tough,” St. Brown said of the defeat, seeing room for improvement: “We have to get better on offense. We have to finish our plays better and make more of them, especially against a team like this.”
The victory saw the Rams become the first franchise to qualify for the playoffs, followed shortly afterwards by the Denver Broncos. The 34-26 win over the Green Bay Packers was the Mile High City club’s eleventh victory in a row. Quarterback Bo Nix threw four touchdown passes.
Philip Rivers’ comeback ended bitterly. The 44-year-old, who returned from retirement after five years, threw an interception in an Indianapolis Colts jersey just seconds before the end, sealing a 16-18 defeat at the Seattle Seahawks. Indianapolis had signed the quarterback during the week after their number one, Daniel Jones, suffered a torn Achilles tendon.
The Colts led 13-3 at one point, but failed to hold on to their lead. Seattle failed to score a touchdown, with kicker Jason Myers scoring all of their points with six field goals (a club record). This included a successful 56-yard kick with 29 seconds remaining in the game.
With eight wins and six losses, Detroit is only third in the NFC North behind the Chicago Bears (10-4) and the Packers (9-4-1). Green Bay is worried about superstar Micah Parsons after the defeat in Denver. It is feared that the defensive end has suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee.
