Wide Receiver Deebo Samuel, who was one of the most versatile weapons of the San Francisco 49ers last season, will miss the first games of the 2020 NFL season.
Bitter news for the San Francisco 49ers: The Super Bowl competitor will have to do without Deebo Samuel in the long run.
The wide receiver is said to have undergone surgery yesterday, Thursday, for his broken foot. Samuel suffered the injury on Tuesday in Nashville ( Tennessee ), when he had a throwing session with some teammates.
Samuel may miss five games of the season
According to NFL network insider Ian Rapoport, the threat of injury is 12 to 16 weeks. That would mean: The pass receiver could be out of commission until mid-October at worst, missing the first five regular season games.
The 24-year-old is positive about the future on Twitter, however: “In ten weeks I’ll be back and a better Deebo than you’ve ever seen before.
10 weeks I’m back better than the deebo you seen before 🙏🏾

Samuel, who was selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, had already struggled with injuries in college football. However, in his first NFL season, he performed strongly. The wide receiver caught 57 passes for a total of 802 yards (3 touchdowns) in the regular season. Only All-Pro-Tight-End George Kittle had a higher space gain. He averaged 14.1 yards per catch.
He also proved to be a good all-purpose weapon, scoring 159 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Samuel was also a major factor in the playoffs, earning 127 receiving yards and 102 rushing yards in the three games.
