Last season, the Seattle Seahawks traded star quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. Now it has come to light that at the time he probably demanded that head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider be fired. Russell Wilson is now defending himself against the rumours.
Russell Wilson has defended himself against allegations that he called for the sacking of his then head coach Pete Carroll before his trade to the Denver Broncos just under a year ago.
“The Athletic” had published an article that the quarterback allegedly wanted to get rid of Carroll and also general manager John Schneider.
I love Pete and he was a father figure to me and John believed in me and drafted me as well. I never wanted them fired. All any of us wanted was to win.
I’ll always have respect for them and love for Seattle.

“I love Pete Carroll, he was like a father figure to me. John believed in me and got me in the draft. I never asked for them to be fired. We all just wanted to win. I’ll always have respect for them and Seattle,” Wilson wrote via Twitter.
However, as The Athletic reported, the quarterback reportedly made those very demands of the franchise last February 2022. Then, just days later, it was reportedly decided to trade the nine-time Pro Bowler.
Wilson arguably demanded Carroll and Schneider be fired
According to the report, Wilson was reportedly convinced that both Carroll and Schneider would prevent the Seahawks and himself from winning more titles. As a replacement for the head coach, the quarterback probably had Sean Payton in mind.
Now the two are indeed united in Denver. Wilson signed a five-year, $245 million contract with the Broncos in 2022, and Payton came to the Mile High City this offseason as head coach after a year away from the NFL.
