Coach Pete Carroll of the Seattle Seahawks argues for the introduction of professional referees in the NFL and gives reasons why.
Seattle – Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is calling for a referee revolution in the NFL.
“They should be working as professionals,” Carroll said in a media roundtable when asked about bringing full-time referees to the NFL. “Bud Grant (ex-NFL coach; ed.) knew it 30 years ago. He lobbied for it all the time. With all the money that’s in the league, my opinion is the same as Bud’s,” Carroll added.
As umpires, he said, you have a “huge responsibility, so they should be brought together and train together in the offseason. Young referees should also be trained by them. I wish it would happen that way. “
“Normal” work on the side
Until now, referees in the NFL, much like in the Bundesliga football league, are not professionals, but still go about a “normal job”. But after some controversial and unfortunate decisions in the past weeks, months and years, a rethink could soon take place here, also triggered by Carroll’s statements.
