Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith has committed to the Washington State franchise following their playoff exit against the San Francisco 49ers.
For the Seattle Seahawks, the season is over after the 23:41 loss in the Wild Card Round against the San Francisco 49ers.
Now it’s all about which team the Seahawks will start the new season with, and there’s still a question mark behind quarterback Geno Smith – or is there?
Smith on the Seahawks: “They believed in me”
The 32-year-old is now expected to become a free agent, but says he is aiming to stay in Seattle. “I want to finish my career in Seattle,” Smith clarified after the loss to the 49ers, “They believed in me. I want to repay them for that.”
For the possible future together he sees the Seahawks at least well equipped: “We can still get a lot better.” After the trade of Russell Wilson, Smith was given the chance as the starting quarterback with the Seahawks and shone with 4,282 yards, which is a franchise record. He also contributed 30 touchdowns.
Will Smith stay in Seattle? Caroll: “I hope so “
There was high praise for Smith from coach Pete Caroll despite the loss to San Francisco. “Geno is the real deal,” Carroll enthused, “he can do all the things a great quarterback does.”
Asked if Smith would continue to be his quarterback with the Seahawks in the new season, Carroll succinctly replied, “I hope so.”
