Sad news from the NFL: former running back Alex Collins has died at the age of only 28 as a result of a motorbike accident.
“Alex was cherished by his family and friends and supporters from all over the world. All who really knew him can attest to his drive, determination and larger than life personality. We ask for your thoughts and prayers for our family during this difficult time,” the family wrote in a statement circulated by the Seattle Seahawks, Collins’ former club.
The accident occurred on Sunday morning, according to police. According to the statement, Collins collided with an SUV that was attempting to turn left at an intersection. However, the exact circumstances of the incident are still being investigated.
“Alex’s infectious smile and dancing will be forever missed,” Seattle’s General Manager John Schneider was quoted as saying in a statement. “Alex could light up a room and was loved by our entire organisation. He enjoyed life and attacked it on the football field. “
Collins was a fifth-round NFL draft choice by the Seahawks in 2016. After one year, he went to the Baltimore Ravens, where he had his best season in the NFL in 2017. He led the Ravens’ running offense with 973 yards and six touchdowns.
After being released by the Ravens in 2019 in the wake of a drug and weapons charge, he returned to the Seahawks in 2020. He most recently played in the USFL for the Houston Gamblers.
