The San Francisco 49ers will have a new starting quarterback next season. Trey Lance will replace Jimmy Garoppolo, that’s virtually certain. The 22-year-old is excited about his new role, but also wants to speak respectfully about his predecessor.
Munich/San Francisco – Even though it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, it’s an open secret: Trey Lance will be the starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers next season.
As such, the playmaker in his second year now appeared in front of the media. The fact that Lance has not yet been officially named the starter is of little concern to him.
Lance with respect to Jimmy G, injury from 2021 more serious than thought
At a media roundtable, Lance let it be known, “I care little about what’s been said officially or not,” the former North Dakota State Bison said. “And I mean that with the utmost respect for Jimmy (Garoppolo),” he added.
“It’s not my job to pay attention to what you guys say. I pay attention to what my coaches and teammates tell me,” Lance said confidently.
The finger injury from last preseason that kept Lance out for an extended period of time affected him until recently. “I had to change my throwing technique, my index finger was really damaged,” said Lance.
At the same time, he gave 49ers fans the all-clear: “I feel great now, I’m throwing the ball really well and that’s how I feel,” he said.
It’s only a matter of time before Lance is officially named the starter. Head coach Kyle Shanahan already announced that Garoppolo “will be traded at some point”. However, the market for him is not very big anymore.
