The San Francisco 49ers are committing to the quarterback duo of Trey Lance and Brock Purdy for the upcoming season. For Jimmy Garoppolo, the chapter is over.
Jimmy Garoppolo will not suit up for the San Francisco 49ers next season.
Despite serious injuries to Trey lance and Brock Purdy, head coach Kyle Shanahan sees “no scenario” of the quarterback returning, he said at the Californians’ season-ending press conference.
Garappolo’s contract expires at the end of the season and he becomes a free agent. Lance suffered a broken ankle in the second game of the season and Purdy suffered a serious elbow injury in the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Garoppolo, whose departure from San Francisco had been speculated before the 2022 season, had taken over for Lance until he injured himself and was replaced by Purdy.
“We’re happy with Lance and Brock,” Shanahan said, “We’ve got two starters on our team that we think we can win with.”
Lance himself stated that he would be fit by the start of the Organised Team Activities (OTAs) in April. For Purdy, the down time is six months to a year.
