Are things not going as planned for the San Francisco 49ers? Or is the feud between Jimmy Garoppolo and Kyle Shanahan much ado about nothing? The quarterback’s statements make us sit up and take notice.

Munich – When Jimmy Garoppolo threw the decisive interception against the Denver Broncos, the cameras caught an angry quarterback.

Very briefly, it could be seen that “Jimmy G” had to get rid of something that looked like “All of your plays suck, man” and was probably addressed to head coach Kyle Shanahan. At least that’s the consensus among amateur lip readers on the net.

Garoppolo took over for injured starter Trey Lance for the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2. Against the Broncos, he totalled 211 yards, one touchdown and the aforementioned interception with about two minutes left, his performance overall was rather weak. His rating: 81.2.

The short clip went accordingly round and round. While Shanahan stated that he had not seen the clip and could not comment on it, Garoppolo did not deny the speculation.

“I heard about that clip,” Garoppolo said. “I can’t read lips. I’m sure I’ve said a lot worse things on the field than that, so I’m glad they caught that and not something else. But I’m not sure exactly what I said, but it is what it is.”

Interesting then was the question of whether there was friction between Garoppolo and Shanahan or whether his comments were simply made in the “heat of the moment”. A strained relationship would not be a surprise, after all, the team has left no stone unturned this offseason to get rid of Garoppolo via trade. The fact that Garoppolo is playing at all is due to Lance’s absence.
