San Francisco 49ers: Jaquiski Tartt heartbroken! “There’s no excuse”

The San Francisco 49ers safety drops a potential interception in the loss to the Los Angeles Rams that could have turned the tide. After the game, he takes the blame.

Los Angeles – Jaquiski Tartt was on the ground for seconds. The San Francisco 49ers safety immediately realised what a great opportunity he had just missed in the loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the Championship Game.

Matthew Stafford had turned in his direction in the final quarter, and the ball was actually easy to catch. But instead of grabbing the interception and giving the 49ers possession, the egg slipped out of the 29-year-old’s hands.

After the game, he was self-critical. “There are no excuses,” Tartt wrote on Twitter, “I deserve all the criticism that’s coming my way now. I missed the chance I always dreamed of. I let my brothers down. But it won’t define me as a person. I will only get stronger and better.”

What is probably certain, however, is that the moment from the Championship Game will haunt Tartt for some time to come:

Shanahan comforts Tartt

Tartt got support from Head Coach Kyle Shanahan. “He did a lot of good things for us. He was one of the best players against Green Bay last week,” Shanahan said. “I’m glad he’s been on our team since I got here. I know he’s disappointed now because of the dropped ball. But there were a lot of other plays and I’m glad he’s on our team.”

Tartt missed the ball with the 49ers still leading 17-14. With an interception, San Francisco might have been able to bring home the lead.
