Christian McCaffrey extends his contract with the San Francisco 49ers ahead of schedule. With the new paper he rises to record player
Christian McCaffrey is setting new standards for running backs in the NFL – not just on the field, but now financially as well.
According to consistent reports, the 27-year-old is extending his contract on the West Coast ahead of schedule by two more years until 2027 and will earn an average of 19 million dollars per year in the final two years of his contract – a record for a running back in the NFL.
Of the total 38 million dollars, 24 million are guaranteed. In addition, “CMC” will receive a total salary increase of eight million dollars in the next two years in which his old contract still applies. Originally, his base salary for 2024 and 2025 was a total of 23.8 million dollars.
Last season in particular, McCaffrey emerged as the clear dominator at his position. He led the league with 1,459 rushing yards, and thanks to another 564 yards through the air, he broke the magic mark of 2,000 scrimmage yards. His 21 total touchdowns were also unrivaled in the league.
In recognition of this historic season, McCaffrey was named Offensive Player of the Year and finished third in the MVP voting behind quarterbacks Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens) and Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys).
McCaffrey was picked in the first round of the 2017 draft by the Carolina Panthers. After a terrific 2019 season, he struggled with injuries and was sent to San Francisco via trade in 2022.
