San Francisco 49ers: Back to the Roots! New jerseys for the traditional franchise

The red jersey of the San Francisco 49ers is one of the most famous sports jerseys in the world. Ahead of the start of the new season, the franchise from California is planning to adapt its gamewear.

San Francisco/Munich – The San Francisco 49ers are one of the most traditional teams in the NFL.

The red jerseys with the distinctive golden helmets have become a worldwide trademark and will continue to represent the franchise in the years to come.

For the start of the new season, however, the “Niners” will appear with a slightly modified form of their familiar jersey.

San Francisco 49ers: New jersey for the start of the season

Generally, the modifications are not particularly big changes, but attentive fans will hardly notice them.

After many years with only two white stripes on the sleeve of the jerseys, San Francisco will return to the traditional three white stripes that once paved the way for Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and Steve Young to five Super Bowl victories starting in September.

In addition, the “Niners” will change their lettering on the jersey. For the start of the new season, the so-called “Saloon Font” will be emblazoned on the chest, which fans will already know from the end zones of the “Levi’s Stadium”.

The franchise name will also be adapted to the past era on the helmet. The “Saloon Font” was first used in 1972 before it was replaced by a modern spelling almost 30 years later.

“One-Shell-Rule”: Will the 49ers also benefit?

With the elimination of the “One-Shell-Rule”, there is currently also speculation in the USA whether the 49ers could put a second helmet colour into operation.

According to this, the throwback jerseys from 1994 could be complemented by a red helmet with a silver stripe.

Unlike the New England Patriots or Tampa Bay Buccaneers, both of whom have already announced a return of their throwback jerseys, San Francisco’s red helmet is still pure speculation.
