Is Jimmy Garoppolo getting off with a “black eye”? As “ESPN” reports, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback could avoid surgery and play again in the near future
Munich – Will Jimmy Garoppolo return to the field this season after all?
Actually, it was said that the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers had suffered a foot fracture and that the season was over for him.
Jimmy Garoppolo: No surgery needed
But as “ESPN” now reports, Garoppolo will not need surgery on his foot, nor has he suffered a metatarsal fracture. “If the rehab goes smoothly, he could return in seven to eight weeks,” Adam Schefter reports.
And that would make him a potential playoff contender. The Wild Card Round goes from 14 to 16 January it is exactly seven weeks to the Divisional Round on 21 and 22 January. So the postseason is indeed a realistic possibility should everything go according to plan for “Jimmy G”.
The 49ers apparently believe that, because while they have signed Josh Johnson from the Denver Broncos’ practice squad as expected. Baker Mayfield, who was released by the Carolina Panthers on Monday at his own request, is headed to the Los Angeles Rams.
San Francisco 49ers: Brock Purdy the starter
Garoppolo completed 67.2 percent of his throws to the man this season, for 2,437 yards and 16 touchdowns with four interceptions. Jimmy G was supposed to be the backup for Trey Lance, but he suffered a serious leg injury early in the season. Currently, “Mr. Irrelevant” Brock Purdy should be the number one.
He came on the field against Miami in the first half for the injured Garoppolo and led San Francisco to victory. Purdy threw two touchdowns, completed 25 of 37 passes and collected 210 passing yards – but he also had one interception.
