Philadelphia Eagles: This is “Big Dom”

Philadelphia Eagles safety Dom DiSandro was ejected from the game against the 49ers. But who is “Big Dom” really?

For many, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni represents the spirit of Philadelphia perfectly. But he may have been outdone by Dom DiSandro on Sunday, when the team’s head safety was ejected from the sideline after an altercation with 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw.

Greenlaw himself was also ejected after grabbing DiSandro’s face, though DiSandro apparently made initial contact with the linebacker. While it is his job to protect the players, this time he went too far for the referees.

DiSandro, with the Italian flag on his sleeve, shook his head and walked off the field at Lincoln Financial Field. He was celebrated frenetically by the spectators

What is Dom DiSandro doing?

Who is the giant who is now a fan favorite?

DiSandro is in his 25th season with the Eagles and serves as “Chief Security Officer” and “Senior Advisor to the General Manager.” According to the Eagles’ website, DiSandro “oversees all security matters for players, coaches and executives.”

“He also manages security at the team’s training complex, is responsible for security measures related to team travel and logistics, and provides education on the NFL’s personal conduct policy,” DiSandro’s biography on the website reads.

In plain language: he is the top protector of the stars and therefore an enormously important man.

It is rare for a team security guard to be kicked out. If anything, DiSandro could be the one to escort a player sent off through the tunnel

DiSandro has a soft side, though. Since last week, he’s been selling “Big Dom” merchandise, with proceeds going to the Eagles Autism Foundation.

According to a Philadelphia Eages insider, the security chief prefers not to speak publicly about his job, which can be all-encompassing.

In addition to the classic security business, DiSandro also has other duties: He accompanies the coaches and players to their appointments, making sure they are on time. He also ensures compliance with the NFL’s rules of conduct.

Whether he likes it or not, DiSandro will have even more cameras around him in the future. He is now a cult figure!

But “Big Dom” will be able to cope with it. He has already had to plan three Super Bowl trips for the Eagles. The new fame will hardly shake him
