In the exuberance of the Super Bowl and fueled by a little champagne, Saquon Barkley spoke euphorically about the future. Now he’s backpedaling a bit.
As soon as the confetti starts falling after a Super Bowl win, alcohol can sometimes come into play.
Saquon Barkley makes no secret of the fact that he indulged in a drink or two after his Philadelphia Eagles triumphed over the Kansas City Chiefs.
The reason: the running back apparently felt the need to back up his dynasty statements a bit.
“After the game, I said, ‘Why can’t our dynasty start now?’ I probably had a little champagne and other things in my blood at that point,” he said. ”But you really can’t focus on that, you just have to enjoy the moment. It’s hard to win a (Super Bowl).”
The ring ceremony is probably the last day the team will celebrate being Super Bowl champions, Barkley said, “and then it’s back to work. Two nights ago, I had trouble sleeping because I was thinking about how to approach the offseason.”
Because after the Super Bowl is before the Super Bowl. The Eagles are now the defending champions, they are the hunted. And with the current squad, they are definitely in a position to attack again. However, it is difficult to predict whether it will be enough to create a real dynasty, and in the NFL, it is also rather the exception.
On the other hand, it is common for statements made by a player to come back to haunt him when things don’t go as planned. It is quite possible that Barkley is therefore backpedalling. At least a little.
“You want to find a way to hold up the Lombardi again and do it all over again,” said Barkley: “The thing about a dynasty, the way you do it, is by putting in the work.”
